The Epsilon Psi chapter of KKΨ will host the 2018 MWD Convention at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri from April 6th – 8th. The theme will be “Route 66.”
Most Convention activities will take place at Wehr Band Hall, Glass Hall, Carrington Hall, Hammons Student Center, and Hammons Hall on the Missouri State University campus. Please utilize this map of campus to become familiar with event locations. The Banquet that Saturday night was will be held at the University Plaza Hotel.
The registration form is live! Do it by Wednesday March 7 at 9 PM CST to be on time and avoid the $10.00 late registration fee!
Attention! We will be organizing a service project in conjunction with Convention this year to support Band of Angels, a charity that accepts, refurbishes and redistributes instruments and supplies to kids for free so they can join band and orchestra. If you can, please bring any of the following to Convention with you:

TBS Women in Music Speaker/Honoraries:
Mrs. Cathy Coonis
Cathy Coonis graduated from Republic H.S. in 1975, then attended College of the Ozarks (which was School of the Ozarks at the time) where she earned her B.A. degree in Music Education and Spanish. She earned her M.S. degree from MSU (SMSU at the time) in Education with a Music Emphasis in 1994. She recently completed her 36th year of teaching in the public schools.
She taught elementary music at Cuba, MO from 1980-’81, then moved to Marshfield where she taught elementary music and assisted with the band program from 1981-1995. The following year (1995-’96), she taught band in Springfield, at Pershing Middle School and Glendale H.S. (as an assistant to the band director). She then went to Seymour where she has taught for the last 20 years. She served as elementary music teacher and choir director for 2 years, took the position as band director and Spanish teacher for 8 years, then retired and worked part-time as the assistant band director and Spanish teacher for 10 years.
Performance is a big part of her life. She has sung with the Springfield Mid-America Singers for over 30 years and is a member of the Springfield Drury Jazz Orchestra, Wings of Swing Big Band and performed with Queen City Dance Band. She performs from time to time with the Republic Community Band and served as director for the Webster County Community Band. She has performed at Springfield Little Theater (both on stage and in the orchestra pit) and in productions with the Springfield Regional Opera. As a member of the Seymour Area Arts Council, she is responsible for setting up the concerts the Council sponsors. She is also responsible for booking the bands for the Seymour Apple Festival. She is frequently hired to judge music festivals, both field marching and concert band.
She has traveled extensively overseas, both on private tours as well as tours with students (the Missouri Ambassadors of Music). She has performed in London (Wesley Chapel, Victoria Embankment Gardens, Westminster Cathedral), Paris (San Severin, Luxembourg Gardens), multiple venues in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Venice (St. Mark’s Cathedral), Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House.

Samantha Boxberger
Samantha Boxberger is a Life Member of the Delta Kappa Chapter at Kansas State University. As an
active member she held positions such as Ritual Chair, Midwest District Vice President for Membership
(2012-2014), and Midwest District President (2012-2014). ln the music department, she was involved in the KSU Marching Band, Cat Band, and Wind Ensemble, KSU Flute Studio, Sigma Alpha lota, and NAFME Collegiate. Sam holds a B.S. in Music Education from Kansas State University. She is currently a Band Director at Junction City High School in Junction City, KS, where she teaches Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Beginning Band, JazzLab, and Guitar. She is active in the MWDAA and TBSAA, serving as the co-chair for the Welcoming Committee of the MWDAA. ln her free time, Sam likes to spend time with her husband and 3 dogs, make arts and crafts, and enjoys potlucks, tailgates and sporting events with her friends.
Lisa Croston
Lisa Croston is the Finance Chair and is currently serving her second term on the Board of Trustees. Lisa graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BA in Sociology and has worked for the Department of Wellness at Oklahoma State University for over 25 years. She is the Coordinator of Sponsored Programs where she is the Chief Fiscal Officer for over twenty five different Sponsored Programs totaling over five million dollars. Lisa resides in Stillwater, Oklahoma with her son, Jared. She is a member of Oklahoma State University Alumni Association, the OSU Band Alumni Chapter, and serves on the Board of Directors for the Stillwater Community Band. Lisa is also a certifled balloon artist and owns a small business, Plan lt Events, which specializes in Event Planning, Wedding Coordination and Balloon Decorations. Lisa Croston was initiated into the Alpha Chapter at Oklahoma State University in the November 1985. She is a Life Member of Tau Beta Sigma and a Gold Star Member of the Tau Beta Sigma Alumni Association. During her active membership she served in several positions including chapter president and three years on the Southwest District Council, one term as treasurer and two terms as president. Lisa served as National Secretary for the 1995-1997 biennium and National Vice President for Special Projects for the 1999-2001 biennium. Lisa received the Wava Banes Turner Award in 2009, the Distinguished Service Pin in 2011 and the Stanley G. Finck Memorial Award in 2013. Lisa currently serves as National Historian and Chair of the National Archives and History Committee.
Holli Hartman
Holli Hartman is a viola, flute/piccolo, and bass clarinet player and was initiated into the Zeta Delta chapter at Kansas in 1989. She held numerous chapter offices as well as serving one year as District First Vice President in charge of colonization and membership. She graduated from KU in 1996 with a degree in anthropology, George Washington University in 2006 with an MA in legislative affairs, and again from KU in 2014 with a degree in civil engineering. She has served on Board of Trustees committees including the Legacy Committee and, currently, the Capital Development Committee, and has assisted at district and national conventions with MWDAA fundraisers, the Credentials Committee, and as a member of the Grace and A. Frank Martin Chapter Leadership Award Committee at the 2017 National Convention. Currently living in Carmel, lN, she works for a civil engineering firm in downtown lndianapolis and enjoys spending time with her yellow lab, Maggie, as well as baking, sewing, embroidery, genealogy, and reading.

2018 Convention Forms
For Housing: We encourage you to book your rooms with the University Plaza, as it is located very close to Convention activities. The Banquet will also be held there Saturday night. The District has reserved a block of rooms for a special event rate of about $104.00/night. Please make your reservations using this link!
For (Non-Hotel) Costs: The registration fee for Convention will be $40.00 for KKY attendees and $42.00 for TBS Attendees. Purchasing the MWD T-Shirt will add $12.50 to the cost.
Here is the form to register! The deadline for on-time registration is Wednesday March 7 at 9:00PM Central Time. If you miss that deadline, you will have to pay a $10.00 late fee. The window for late registration will close on Wednesday, March 21 at 9:00 PM. If you miss that deadline, you will need to email your respective District Council to explain why you need an exception.
